4- AcO -DMT (or O-Acetylpsilocin ) is a hallucinogenic tryptamine , structurally close to psilocin

4-AcO-DMT was discovered in the 1960s by Albert Hofmann and Franz Troxler, during research for the pharmaceutical company Sandoz ^[ 7 ] .

However, it remained virtually unknown until a study by David Nichols of Purdue University presented it as a potential prodrug of psilocin ^{[ 3 ] , [ 8 ]} . It is now considered an NPS , and the number of consumers is increasing ^[ 9 ]  ; it is even said to be one of the most consumed NPS in the world in 2016 ^[ 6 ] .

The effects  are very similar to those of psilocin and psilocybin , the latter molecule (contained in hallucinogenic mushrooms ) also being a prodrug of psilocin.
Their duration is approximately 3 to 6 hours, depending on the dose and the person

Users of 4-AcO-DMT are generally interested in self-discovery , spiritual fulfillment , but also in their own pleasure . They also note the almost non-existence of addictive behaviors . The addictive potential of this molecule is much lower than that of most NPS , but also less important than that noted with other hallucinogenic NPS such as 25I-NBOMe ^[ 6 ] . The molecule has a significant cross- tolerance , so taking it for several consecutive days greatly reduces the effects.
